In the crowded landscape of modern fantasy, few stories can claim a three-decade journey from the “NO” pile to a global streaming deal. Yet, Ximphonic Versus, the dark fantasy action- epic created by Scotlynd Xing Xin-Bedford, is doing exactly that. After over 30 plus years of development and a staggering 200 rejections from traditional publishers, the indie sensation is officially leaping from the comic book page to the TV screen.

The transition hints at a historic win for self-publishing and a major expansion for Xing’s Phantom Blade Productions, which has recently secured partnerships with industry giants to bring this “Dark Fantasy Opera” to a mainstream audience.

From Indie Underdog to “IP of the Year”

The story of Ximphonic Versus is one of pure perseverance. Originally published in 1995, the graphic novel series faced years of industry skepticism due to its unique, high-detail art style and complex themes. Undeterred, Xing launched his own label and eventually landed his books on the shelves of Walmart, and many local comic shops across the USA and internationally, selling over 13,000 copies without the help of traditional crowdfunding.

The industry finally took notice in 2022 when the series was crowned “IP of the Year” by the ICCA, catching the attention of powerhouses like Netflix and HBO, and even actors from The Handmaid’s Tale, have shown great support for the series.

What to Expect: The American Anime

The upcoming TV adaptation, produced by Phantom Blade Productions, is being billed as an “American Anime.” For fans of the source material, the production value is looking to set a high bar:

    • The Vision: Acclaimed Italian Director Massimiliano Cerchi (Lockdown, The Omega File) is set to helm the series. And Xing Xin will assume the role of CO-Director, writer and executive producer and art director.
    • The Storyboards: In a nod to its JRPG-inspired roots, the show’s storyboards are being crafted in Japan by former Square Enix artists.
    • The Score: The series will feature haunting, cinematic music from world-renowned composers Two Steps From Hell.

The first season is slated for 4 episodes, centering on Prince Addonnis Neos Latrunculus, the heir to the Noctium Imperium, as he navigates an 800-year war and the burden of protecting the “Symphonic Swords of Eon.”

More Than Just Fantasy: A Mental Health Mission

What sets Ximphonic Versus apart from standard “swords and sorcery” is its emotional core. Xing has been vocal about the series being a vehicle for mental health awareness, specifically addressing PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

“It’s a cross-section of fantasy and reality,” Xing says of the work. “The characters lead interesting lives plagued by the everyday things we all understand such as loss, heartbreak, and the struggle to find hope.”

The series is also endorsed by a professional licensed psychologist Dr. Jo Angela Johnston

    A Multi-Platform Empire

The TV deal is just one piece of the puzzle. As part of the 2026 rollout, fans can expect:

    1. High-End Action Figures: A collaboration with Phantom Blade Productions to produce one six scale (12”) action figures reminiscent of the Final Fantasy Play Arts Kai line.

    2. Streaming Synergy: Collaborations with Disney+ and Hulu to promote the IP to millions of new viewers.

    3. The “Phantom Pizza”: In a quirky move for collectors, Phantom Blade Productions will even release “Pizza Edition Boxes” containing special collector items.

As Ximphonic Versus prepares for its streaming debut, it serves as a powerful reminder to creators that a “no” from a publisher isn’t the end of the road sometimes, it’s just the long way around to becoming a global phenomenon.
